A Lower 25(OH)D Level in COVID-19 Patients is Associated with Increased Mortality: An Observational Study

Background: Recent studies have shown that insufficient vitamin D supply is correlated with increase in COVID-19 cases and its mortality. Potentially, it may play an important role controlling virus proliferation. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the association between serum levels clinical findings, mortality rate patients COVID-19. Methods: cross-sectional was conducted on 200 referred or admitted Loghman-e-Hakim Hospital of Tehran, Iran, from February June 2020. After patient selection, demographic information all recorded. Eventually, relationship basic findings evaluated. Results: The mean Vit-D intubated non-intubated were 22.95 ± 22.23 ng/mL 21.64 29.20 ng/mL, respectively (P = 0.018). While 34.2% (55 cases) ≥ 31 about 70% death < 0.001). Conclusions: According our results, supplementation could be beneficial patients. However, further comprehensive trials are needed confirm these findings.
